Rally to Save Our Great Salt Lake

Thank you for joining us at the Utah State Capitol for our 5th annual Rally to Save Our Great Salt Lake on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at 12pm.

It's hard to believe this was our 5th Rally! This movement had come such a long way AND - we're just getting started. This is long work. There's so much power in the community that's building around Great Salt Lake and the momentum is on our side. Our state leaders have called for the lake's restoration by 2034 and we're here to hold them accountable.

We are happy you joined us on January 31st as we celebrated, reflected on where we've been, and set our sights on the road ahead.

We need water to the lake. We need deep cultural paradigm shifts and systems change. We need a movement bigger than anything we've seen here in Utah.

Since 2022, we have kept a daily vigil on behalf of Great Salt Lake.

Join the Making Waves Artist Collaborative for the 5th annual Vigil for Great Salt Lake!

Walk the Waves every Monday at 8 am from January 26th to March 2nd at the Capitol Building.
Celebrate the Species with us every Friday at 5 pm from January 23rd to March 6th at the Capitol Building.

2026 Great Salt Lake Strike Team Report

Read the Great Salt Lake Strike Team's recently released a “Great Salt Lake Data and Insights Summary” to help decision-makers during the 2026 General Legislative Session. ⁠

This summary synthesizes essential data and insights so decision-makers have the information they need to improve water management, increase water deliveries to the lake, mitigate adverse impacts, and recover the lake to a healthy range.

Great Salt Lake Hopeline

GREAT SALT LAKE HOPELINE is a community art project that invites callers to share their stories of hope with the lake, or engage through listening to the sounds of her shoreline.

Calls can be made through this dial-in hotline or from upcycled “Great Salt Lake Hopeline” phone booths in the Greater Salt Lake area. These voicemails will be used in future productions of Great Salt Lake Hopeline by means of podcast and short film.

Through the sharing and distributing of these collected voicemails the project aims to amplify community voices, inspire hope, and spark dialogue about the conservation of our beautiful Great Salt Lake.

Great Salt Lake Commissioner’s 2024 Strategic Report

In 2023, the Utah Legislature created the office of the Great Salt Lake Commissioner. Brian Steed (USU Land, Water, and Air) was appointed in July 2023 and charged with creating a Strategic Plan for Great Salt Lake, which was published on January 15th, 2024.

Green Latinos

GreenLatinos strengthens federal air quality standards and advocates for climate justice protections that directly impact frontline Latine communities living near major air quality issues, such as those affected by the drying of the Great Salt Lake. Our work ensures that our communities have a voice in shaping policies that protect their health and environment.

Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment

Utah Physicians for a Healthy Environment (UPHE) is Utah’s largest civic organization of health care professionals, with over 430 physicians and 3,500 members, including biologists, toxicologists, and air quality specialists. We are dedicated to addressing environmental health risks, such as the growing dust pollution from the shrinking Great Salt Lake, which threatens public health and can contribute to a rise in chronic diseases linked to air pollution.

Grow the Flow

Grow the Flow is harnessing the political and public will to restore Great Salt Lake by empowering citizens, identifying non-partisan solutions, and leading collaborative efforts with NGOs, the private sector, community members, institutions, and government leaders to get water to the Lake. Through geographically and ideologically diverse coalition building, policy vetting and drafting with leading water policy experts, and a research bridge to bring together scientists and innovators across diverse fields of expertise, Grow the Flow is working to accelerate the rate of Great Salt Lake's restoration.

Great Salt Lake Audubon

Great Salt Lake Audubon, a chapter of the National Audubon Society, was founded in 1912 and is the oldest conservation organization in Utah. This volunteer organization strives to meet its mission through volunteer opportunities, seminars, educational field trips and informative general meetings with guest presenters. We also support state and local conservation efforts. Great Salt Lake is dedicated to protecting and enhancing habitat for wild birds, animals and plants, and to maintaining healthy and diverse environments for wildlife and people throughout the state.

Utah Youth for Environmental Solutions

UYES is a predominantly youth-of-color-led organization that empowers young people in Utah to mobilize around climate and environmental justice issues through legislation, education, and action. UYES leads campaigns to decouple the education system from fossil fuels and address pressing water management concerns in Utah and the greater Southwest, with an emphasis on protecting the Great Salt Lake.

Great Salt Lake Interfaith Action (GSLIA)

Great Salt Lake Interfaith Action (GSLIA) takes action to save Great Salt Lake, while respecting each of our unique spiritual and faith-based traditions. WE TAKE ACTION: as spiritual individuals and faith-based communities, collectively as a coalition of spiritual and faith-based communities, through educational outreach and advocacy, and by reaching out into the community.
